A fire at an apartment building on Wharncliffe Road in North London led to the evacuation of residents and the arrest of one individual. The blaze broke out on the third floor of the building, prompting multiple 911 calls reporting a person trapped on a balcony. Fire crews arrived within minutes and successfully rescued the individual using ladders.
While some residents sheltered in place, most were evacuated as firefighters brought the fire under control. The third floor sustained significant fire and smoke damage and remains uninhabitable. Smoke also affected higher floors, and crews are working to ensure safety throughout the building.
Residents reported this is the second fire in the same unit, raising concerns that led to one tenant being taken into custody. Fire investigators are now working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
