Sudbury police say a 38-year-old woman has died following a tent fire at a homeless encampment in the city.

Officers were called to the Energy Court encampment around 10 p.m. Monday after reports of a fire. Police said people at the scene used snow to extinguish the flames.

After the fire was put out, a woman was found dead inside a tent. The coroner’s office will conduct a post-mortem to confirm the individual’s identity and determine the cause of death.

Police say detectives are working alongside the coroner and the fire marshal’s office as the investigation continues.

Update – The 38-year-old woman is identified as Amanda Nahwegahbow from Wiikwemikong First Nation.
