Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash in Ottawa on Friday morning after reports that one individual was trapped inside a damaged vehicle.
Firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Bay and Albert streets at the request of Ottawa Police Service, who advised that one of the occupants could not exit the wreckage.
Arriving shortly after 9:20 a.m., crews found two people inside one vehicle, with the passenger unable to free themselves. The second vehicle’s driver was not trapped.
Firefighters stabilized the damaged vehicle before using hydraulic rescue equipment to begin extrication. Both the front and rear passenger-side doors were removed to safely reach the individual.
The person was then transferred to Ottawa Paramedic Service for medical care. The scene was cleared by about 9:50 a.m.
