A fatal house fire in Poplar Hill First Nation is under investigation by the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service after a deceased person was found inside the residence.
Police said officers received a report of the fire on Friday afternoon. The blaze had already been contained by the time it was reported to authorities.
Officers who responded to the scene discovered the deceased individual inside the home, prompting a sudden death investigation with assistance from the Ontario Office of the Chief Coroner.
The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal is also investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. Both investigations remain ongoing.
