One person has died following a house explosion in Mississauga late Monday night.

Emergency crews were called to a residence near Mavis and Bristol roads around 10:30 p.m., where they found the home heavily damaged and engulfed in flames after an apparent explosion.

Police say the victim has not yet been identified. All known residents connected to the home have been accounted for, leaving investigators uncertain why the individual was inside. The body was discovered once officials were able to safely access part of the structure.

Authorities initially believed there were no injuries, but the fatality was later confirmed. The building remains unstable, preventing a full search until debris can be cleared with heavy equipment.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has begun investigating the cause and origin of the explosion, with further work expected to continue. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Police say they will pursue a criminal investigation if any evidence suggests wrongdoing.
