A small kitchen fire at a south London home was quickly contained Tuesday afternoon, with officials crediting working smoke alarms for the fast response.
The London Fire Department says crews were called to the 40-block of Masson Court and were able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the kitchen.
All residents safely evacuated the home, and one person received treatment at the scene for minor injuries.
Fire officials believe a faulty appliance caused the blaze, which resulted in an estimated $75,000 in damage. They emphasized that functioning smoke alarms play a critical role in providing early warning and allowing occupants to escape safely.
