One person was injured after a taxi cab crashed off the Highway 7/8 flyover and overturned near the Highway 8 East ramp early Monday.
Emergency crews were called to the on-ramp from King Street East to Highway 8 East shortly before 2 a.m. A white taxi was found upside down near the edge of the ramp, with heavy damage to its roof. A tow truck arrived around 3:45 a.m. to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt later confirmed the cab fell from the Highway 7/8 flyover. Waterloo Regional Police initially reported a closure of the ramp from King Street East to Highway 8 East, noting the flyover itself was outside their jurisdiction. Despite posted closures and police cruisers, some drivers were seen passing through the restricted area.
OPP lifted the closure around 5 a.m. Police said the cab driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
