A person was hospitalized early Thursday morning after part of the ceiling at the entrance of a North York apartment building collapsed. The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on Chalkfarm Drive, near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue.

According to Toronto Fire, the underside of the entrance structure gave way and fell onto a parked vehicle with two people inside. One of the occupants was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver reported that the collapse happened just as he was unloading items after dropping off a friend.

Toronto Fire has notified the city’s building department, and an investigation into the structural failure is underway.
