Two homes were damaged in an early morning fire in Ottawa after flames spread from one house to another before firefighters arrived.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to reports of a house fire in the 2700 block of Flannery Drive at about 4:19 a.m. Crews arrived within minutes to find a single-storey home fully engulfed, with flames already extending to the roof of a neighbouring residence. A second alarm was called to bring in additional firefighters.
Crews attacked the blaze from multiple points and initially entered the burning home, but were forced to withdraw after part of the structure collapsed, creating hazardous conditions. Once it was safe, firefighters re-entered and completed a search of the building.
No occupants were found in either home. Ottawa Paramedic Service assessed one person at the scene for a minor injury, but hospital treatment was not required.
The fire was brought under control by 5:11 a.m. Investigators from Ottawa Fire Services and the Office of the Fire Marshal are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
