Firefighters in Ottawa responded to a residential fire in the Parkwood Hills neighbourhood on Saturday evening that spread across two homes.

According to Ottawa Fire Services, crews were dispatched to Kilmory Crescent around 8:15 p.m. after reports of a garage fire. The flames quickly extended from the garage into one house before reaching a neighbouring single-family home.

Firefighters searched both properties and confirmed no one was inside. A second alarm was issued at 8:24 p.m. to bring more crews and equipment to the scene.

The blaze was brought under control by 9:46 p.m.

Ottawa Paramedic Service said a 65-year-old man suffered a minor burn caused by debris but declined medical treatment. Fire officials remained on scene overnight to monitor for flare-ups, while investigators continued working to determine what caused the fire.

Update – The fire is determined to be originated from a lithium-ion battery in an e-bike.
