A two-alarm fire in Richmond severely damaged two homes on Tuesday afternoon, forcing multiple families to evacuate.
Fire crews were called to Pelham Crescent near Perth Street just before 2 p.m., following several 911 reports of a house engulfed in flames. Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson Nick DeFazio said firefighters requested additional trucks to prevent the fire from spreading, but a neighboring home still caught fire.
The blaze was under control by 3:21 p.m., though both houses sustained significant damage. Two adults from the initial home, along with four children, two adults, and a German Shepherd from the neighboring residence, have been displaced.
A man was treated for minor smoke inhalation and taken to hospital in stable condition. Authorities say the cause of the fire is under investigation, with no suspicious activity reported so far.
