Ottawa Fire Services responded to two separate kitchen fires on Thursday, with one person displaced and a dog rescued.
The first fire occurred around 8:10 a.m. at a multi-unit home on Carlsen Avenue in the Heron Park area. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported smoke and flames coming from a second-floor wooden balcony. Firefighters found the fire in a second-floor kitchen, which had spread into the roof and attic. Crews opened the ceiling to fully extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported, but one adult was displaced and is receiving assistance.
The second incident happened around 1 p.m. at a home on Briarfield Crescent in Orléans. Firefighters quickly contained the kitchen fire, minimizing damage and allowing the homeowner to remain in the residence. During a search of the home, a dog was safely rescued.
Both fires remain under investigation.
