Ontario Provincial Police are reminding motorists to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles after an officer was injured when a cruiser was struck on Highway 401 near Lansdowne earlier this month.

The incident occurred on June 8 at about 10:30 a.m. while officers were managing traffic following a collision. A marked police cruiser was parked with its emergency lights activated when it was hit by a vehicle travelling at highway speed.

The impact sent an OPP officer to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police are using the incident to reinforce the importance of complying with Ontario’s move-over laws to protect emergency personnel working on roadways.
