A 38-year-old Orangeville man is facing several charges after allegedly reversing into a marked police cruiser while impaired.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Friday, after provincial police responded to a fail-to-remain collision in the Sherwood Street area. Officers located the suspect vehicle in Orangeville, but as they approached, the driver reportedly reversed into their cruiser.

Police observed signs of impairment and launched a detailed investigation. The man has since been charged with multiple offences, including impaired operation by alcohol and drugs, dangerous driving, failure to stop after a collision, driving under suspension, refusing to comply with a demand, and not properly wearing a seat belt.

He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Dufferin police are urging drivers to plan ahead when consuming substances, stressing that even small amounts can severely impair judgment and lead to life-altering consequences.
