A 55-year-old woman from Orleans has been charged after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 17 in Calvin Township.
Ontario Provincial Police responded around 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 after receiving a 911 report of a possible impaired driver. Officers found the vehicle off the eastbound lanes, down an embankment in a ditch. The driver, who was not injured, remained inside the vehicle when police arrived.
Following their investigation, officers concluded that alcohol contributed to the crash. The woman was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing.
She now faces several charges, including impaired driving, having a blood alcohol level over the legal limit, registering a blood alcohol concentration above zero as a novice driver, possessing cannabis within easy reach in a vehicle, and having an open container of alcohol.
Her licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for at least seven days. She has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
