A rural Ottawa bungalow was completely destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday. Fire crews rushed to the 6000 block of Snake Island Road in Osgoode around 4:15 a.m. after several 911 callers reported a house engulfed in flames, with one noting the roof had already collapsed.

When firefighters arrived, the structure was already overtaken by heavy fire, intensified by strong winds. Ottawa Fire’s Nick DeFazio told CityNews that crews had no choice but to fight the blaze defensively, surrounding the home to keep it from spreading further. With no hydrants in the area, responders relied on tanker trucks to shuttle water from a nearby source.

Safety zones were established due to collapsing walls, and crews also had to watch for propane tanks and a vehicle that caught fire during the incident.

The 5,000-square-foot home was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters spent roughly four hours bringing the flames under control, finally doing so at about 8:15 a.m.

The Ontario fire marshal is investigating. A major fire also damaged the same property in December 2021, leaving behind similar destruction.
