An Oshawa man is facing numerous criminal charges following a reported assault and police pursuit on the city’s south side Tuesday afternoon.

Durham Regional Police say officers were called to the area of Wentworth Street and Oxford Street shortly after noon after receiving reports that a suspect had assaulted a victim and forced them into a vehicle before fleeing. Police later located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver sped away and collided with another vehicle.

Officers ended the brief pursuit by deliberately stopping the suspect vehicle. The driver, identified as 32-year-old Zachary Ryan Grills, was arrested at the scene.

The victim, along with the driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved in the crash, sustained minor injuries. Police say Grills was also wanted on outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest.

He now faces multiple charges, including assault, forcible confinement, dangerous driving, evading police, obstruction, leaving the scene of a collision, auto theft, possession of stolen property, and several driving-related offences. Grills was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
