An Ottawa motorcyclist faces multiple charges after allegedly hitting a police officer while attempting to flee a traffic stop on Highway 417 Tuesday afternoon.
The 33-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving, evading police, stunt driving, operating an uninsured vehicle, careless driving, failing to stop for police, driving without plates, and operating an unsafe vehicle. He also faces a 30-day licence suspension.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when the motorcyclist was spotted riding on the shoulder of the highway near Woodroffe Avenue. When an officer tried to pull him over, the man sped off, striking the officer in the process. The officer sustained minor injuries.
Following the incident, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) appealed to the public for help identifying the suspect. By Friday, they thanked those who provided key information, leading to the man’s arrest. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
