Firefighters prevented a blaze at a ByWard Market business from spreading to nearby buildings on Monday night.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to multiple emergency calls just before 9:30 p.m. reporting heavy black smoke from a property on William Street near George Street. Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the two-storey building that houses Beans and Barrels café and lounge.
The fire was brought under control by 10 p.m. and contained to its point of origin before it could extend further. It was limited to a single unit within a multi-unit residential area above the commercial space.
No injuries were reported, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause.
