A 49-year-old man from Chatham remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night.

The collision occurred around 10:49 p.m. on Longwoods Road between Littlejohn Road and Zone Road 7. According to Chatham-Kent police, the pedestrian was walking along the roadway when he was hit by a westbound vehicle driven by a 54-year-old woman from Thamesville.

The injured man was initially taken to Four Counties Health Services in Newbury before being airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre for further treatment. Police said the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

Due to the seriousness of the incident, the Chatham-Kent Police Traffic Management Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation. Longwoods Road was closed overnight while officers examined the scene but has since reopened.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and no charges have been laid.
