A man was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Toronto early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Queen Street West and Portland Street shortly before 5:30 a.m. after reports of a pedestrian collision. Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the driver remained at the scene following the collision.

The crash affected traffic in the area, with all westbound lanes of Queen Street West at Augusta Avenue blocked during the morning commute. Police are continuing their investigation and are expected to review nearby surveillance footage and speak with witnesses to determine what led to the collision.
