A pedestrian has died after being struck by a GO train in Richmond Hill on Friday evening.
York Regional Police say emergency crews were called shortly after 6 p.m. to a railway crossing near Elgin Mills and Newkirk Roads, north of Richmond Hill GO Station. The individual was found with critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say CN Police are leading the investigation, and early indications suggest the circumstances are not considered suspicious.
The incident also disrupted GO Transit service, with passengers on the last two northbound trains transferred to shuttle buses between Richmond Hill GO Station and stations further north.
