Peel police say a 56-year-old Mississauga man died Friday night after being hit by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

Emergency crews were called around 9:05 p.m. to the area of Eglinton Avenue West and Fallingbrook Drive, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead.

Investigators are searching for the driver, who was last seen in a grey/silver 2014–2018 Mini Cooper S believed to have heavy damage to the hood, windshield, and front passenger side. According to police, the driver had also allegedly removed their vehicle’s license plate after fleeing the collision scene.

Both directions of Eglinton Avenue in the area remain closed as the investigation continues.

Update – The hit-and-run victim is identified to be Santosh Kumar Patra of Mississauga. On October 18, Peel Regional Police arrested a 46-year-old Mississauga man, Romany Elhariry. He faces a charge for leaving the scene of a fatal crash and is scheduled to appear in Brampton court on December 22.
