A person has sustained serious injuries after being struck by an ION LRT train in front of Grand River Hospital in Kitchener on Wednesday afternoon. Waterloo Regional Police responded to the incident, which occurred around noon at the intersection of King Street West and Pine Street, involving a pedestrian and the train.

The injured individual was transported to a hospital outside the region, though police have not provided further details on the circumstances leading up to the collision. Shortly after the incident, officers were seen inspecting the front bumper of the train, which had been detached.

The crash also caused significant disruption to LRT service, with trains suspended between downtown Kitchener and Uptown Waterloo. Shuttle buses were deployed to assist passengers, and detours were still in place by 4 p.m.

Waterloo Regional Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
