A woman in her 20s is dead after being struck by two vehicles in Scarborough Thursday night. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Birchmount Road and St. Clair Avenue East.

According to police, the victim was crossing midblock when she was hit by a northbound white Ford van and a southbound black SUV. A nearby Toronto firefighter, who was off-duty, stopped to attempt life-saving measures before paramedics arrived. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both vehicles fled the scene following the collision. The Ford van is believed to have sustained damage to its windshield. Police have yet to determine if speed was a factor in the crash but have deployed their collision reconstruction unit to gather more evidence.

Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.

Update – On November 26, a 43-year-old Toronto man, Gregory Manzer, was taken into custody after investigators identified him as the driver of a white Ford van. He faces two charges: failing to remain at a crash that resulted in a death and careless driving causing death. His first court appearance is set for January 20, 2026.
