A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital after being struck by an SUV early Wednesday morning in Waterloo.

Waterloo Regional Police initially closed King Street North between Hickory Street West and Columbia Street shortly before 5 a.m. while officers responded to the scene.

Police later confirmed the closure was due to a pedestrian collision. The victim was transported to a hospital outside the region with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The section of King Street North reopened near Hickory Street West just before noon. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information to contact the traffic services unit.
