An 82-year-old man from Pembroke has died after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 401 near Quinte West.
The Ontario Provincial Police said the man was a passenger in a vehicle that experienced a flat tire Sunday morning before 7:30 a.m. After the vehicle stopped in a westbound lane, he exited and was hit by another vehicle.
He was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Westbound lanes of Highway 401 were shut down for several hours as officers investigated but have since reopened. Police continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
