Emergency crews responded Thursday morning after a person was fatally struck by a train on the Lakeshore West GO line west of Confederation GO Station in Hamilton.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene before 11:30 a.m., prompting a temporary suspension of train service through the area while the incident was investigated.

Woodward Avenue was closed between Barton Street East and Rennie Street for several hours before reopening shortly after 3 p.m. GO Transit operated replacement buses during the disruption, and full train service resumed later in the afternoon.

Hamilton police continue to investigate the incident.
