Dufferin Police are seeking assistance in identifying the driver of a vehicle involved in a suspected copper wire theft and a hit-and-run incident.

On the morning of September 7, officers responded to a crash reported near County Road 2 in Melancthon Township. Investigators believe the suspect vehicle was attempting to steal copper wire from utility poles when it was confronted by a concerned citizen. The vehicle then allegedly struck the citizen’s car before fleeing the scene, causing a disruption on the road.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a black 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver is a middle-aged white male, approximately 6 feet tall.

Dufferin OPP is asking anyone who witnessed the event or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward. Tips can be provided by calling 1-888-310-1122, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
