A house fire in the Bracebridge area on Sunday morning caused significant damage but resulted in no serious injuries, thanks in part to functioning smoke alarms. The fire broke out around 9:30 a.m. near Wellington Street and Santa’s Village Road, prompting a response from Bracebridge Fire Stations 1 and 2. About 30 firefighters and six fire vehicles were involved.

The two occupants evacuated safely after being alerted by smoke alarms. One person sustained a minor ankle injury. Fire Chief Kevin Plested emphasized the importance of working smoke alarms, noting they played a key role in the safe evacuation.

The home, believed to be insured, sustained major damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, though it is not considered suspicious.
