A kitchen fire in a unit under renovation at a Centretown apartment building on Friday morning left one person treated for smoke inhalation. Ottawa Fire Services responded to the 9-1-1 call at 8:42 a.m. about a fire on the 10th floor of a building on Metcalfe Street.
Firefighters arrived two minutes later and saw smoke coming from the roof of the 11th floor. Upon entering the 10th-floor unit, they found flames in the kitchen and quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread.
No one was found inside the apartment, but one resident was treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and officials confirmed the apartment was being renovated at the time.
