A 31-year-old woman from Penetanguishene is facing multiple charges after an encounter with police in Midland on Sunday afternoon.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP say officers attempted a traffic stop around 5 p.m. on Yonge Street after an automatic licence plate reader flagged a plate violation. Although the vehicle initially pulled over, the driver refused to lower her window or open the door despite repeated requests, then drove away at normal speeds.
Police followed the vehicle to a nearby grocery store parking lot, where cruisers were positioned to block any exit. The driver again tried to leave and struck a police cruiser, causing minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers were able to safely access the vehicle and arrest the lone driver, who was taken to the detachment without further issues. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was later released from custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
