A 22-year-old man from Port Dover has been arrested following an incident in which a 17-year-old girl was struck while crossing a street in Guelph.
The collision occurred around 1 p.m. on Monday in the area of Harvard Road and Gordon Street. The girl, who was using a crosswalk, was hit by the driver of a pickup truck. She was thrown onto the vehicle’s hood before falling to the ground. The driver briefly stopped and inquired if she was okay, but after she indicated she was not, he drove away.
The girl was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A witness provided police with the truck’s license plate, and officers located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot. Upon inspecting the truck, they found fresh scuff marks on the hood and grille.
A man matching the driver’s description was also identified. The Port Dover man has been charged with careless driving and failure to remain at the scene of a collision.
