Gage Taylor, a Port Stanley resident, is currently fighting for his life following a severe motorcycle crash on Thursday. The accident occurred when Gage was pulling out of a gas station, colliding with an SUV. He was thrown onto the vehicle’s windshield and then hurled 45 feet, while his bike traveled another 140 feet.
Despite the severity of the crash, the Ontario Provincial Police later reported that the motorcycle driver’s injuries were non-life-threatening. However, Gage’s injuries are far from minor and will have lasting impacts on his life.
Doctors at London Health Sciences Centre are working to address the extensive injuries he sustained, which include fractures to his pelvis, leg, and wrist, as well as a crushed urethra, an air pocket in his chest, and the need for both a feeding and chest tube.
He was placed in a medically induced coma and underwent immediate surgery, including the repair of an open wrist fracture, a shattered leg, and the stabilization of his pelvis. Further surgeries to repair his shoulder and pelvis are planned.
His mother, Tammy Hunter, expressed disbelief that her son survived the crash, given the extent of his injuries. As a postal worker, Hunter is currently taking time off to be by his son’s side, but this has placed financial strain on the family. To help with the mounting medical and living expenses, Gage’s aunt, Kristen Beech, launched an online fundraiser for the family.
