A 32-year-old man from Thunder Bay is facing a range of criminal charges after a high-speed crash involving a utility pole.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on a Sunday near Crawford Avenue and Gore Street, where the driver allegedly tried to outrun an approaching train at a railway crossing. Witnesses reported that the vehicle became airborne before the driver lost control and slammed into the pole.
This marks his second impaired driving arrest in under three weeks. Following the crash, the driver reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was quickly caught by police. Officers observed signs of impairment and found open alcohol containers, drug paraphernalia, and a stolen licence plate inside the car.
There were three passengers in the vehicle, one of whom sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver now faces multiple charges, including impaired and dangerous driving causing bodily harm, prohibited operation, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and violating probation and release conditions. He also faces several traffic-related charges. He remains in custody, with another court appearance scheduled.
