Ottawa Fire Services say firefighters assisted a resident and their cat to safety during a balcony fire in Hintonburg Tuesday evening.
Crews responded to a duplex on Irving Avenue around 8:09 p.m. after receiving reports of flames coming from a second-floor balcony. While conducting a search of the building, firefighters located one resident and a cat and escorted them outside.
The fire was brought under control within 14 minutes of crews arriving and was confined to the balcony area. However, damage caused while forcing entry into the affected unit meant the resident had to find temporary accommodations.
Other occupants of the duplex were allowed to return home after firefighters cleared smoke from the building using high-powered ventilation fans.
