Staff at a retirement residence in Muskoka quickly handled a small fire earlier this week, preventing it from spreading and keeping residents safe.

The incident occurred Tuesday around 11 a.m. at Muskoka Traditions Retirement Home on Legacy Lane. According to the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, employees noticed smoke coming from a recessed wall heater in a stairwell and immediately used a portable fire extinguisher to put out the flames.

Fire crews arrived shortly after but found that staff had already contained the situation. Because the fire was extinguished so quickly, the damage remained limited to the heater area and there was no need to evacuate residents.

Officials confirmed that no one was injured during the incident. The quick actions of the staff prevented the fire from spreading further inside the building.
