A major fire on West Street South in Huntsville early Wednesday destroyed two homes and displaced several residents. Over 40 firefighters from multiple stations worked for more than eight hours to contain the blaze, which consumed a triplex and a duplex. While no injuries were reported, two people were helped to safety by firefighters.
The fire started outside, but investigators couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause due to the severe damage and various possible ignition sources.
Fire officials are reminding residents to avoid storing combustible materials like firewood, garbage, or smoking waste near their homes, as these can easily spark fires.
Victim Services Muskoka is assisting displaced residents with temporary shelter and support. The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department thanked emergency responders and community members, including the Huntsville Legion and local neighbours, for their help and generosity during the response.
