A snowmobile was hit by a southbound train Thursday afternoon near Port Stanton Parkway after becoming stuck on the railway tracks, according to Severn Fire officials.
Severn Fire and Emergency Services were called to the crossing around 1:04 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a train and an unattended snowmobile. Initial information indicates the rider managed to get off the machine before impact.
Police and Rama Paramedic Services also responded. Paramedics assessed the snowmobile operator, who sustained only minor injuries. The train was brought to a stop following the incident.
Emergency crews believe the crash occurred when one of the snowmobile’s skis became lodged in the tracks while crossing. Authorities confirmed the rider was clear of the vehicle before it was struck.
