A 27-year-old man is in custody following a violent incident early Wednesday morning in Sault Ste. Marie that began with a vehicle crashing into a building and escalated during his arrest.

Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle striking a building on Churchill Boulevard, causing extensive damage. The driver fled the scene on foot, prompting an investigation that led officers to the suspect’s residence.

When police attempted to arrest the man, he became combative, resisting officers by grabbing, pulling away, and ignoring commands. During the altercation, he bit two officers—seriously injuring one—and spat on another.

The accused now faces several charges, including aggravated assault of a peace officer, two counts of assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and breach of recognizance. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
