Liberal MP Shaun Chen will resign from Parliament at the end of this week, citing ongoing health problems stemming from a car accident late last year.
Chen, who has represented Scarborough North since 2015, said injuries from the crash have resulted in significant health challenges and made it difficult for him to travel regularly to Ottawa for parliamentary duties.
After consulting with his family, Chen decided that stepping down was the best course of action.
Before entering federal politics, Chen served as chair of the Toronto District School Board. Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked him for his advocacy on behalf of young people and his efforts to address racism, while wishing him well in his recovery and future endeavours.
