An 83-year-old man walking his dog was killed in Hamilton Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle. The collision occurred shortly before 10 a.m. at Upper Ottawa Street and Anson Avenue.
Police say the man was in the crosswalk with his dog when a northbound red four-door sedan hit him. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, while the dog was unharmed. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
This marks Hamilton’s third pedestrian fatality in a week. On Nov. 13, a 52-year-old crossing guard was killed by a dump truck at Mohawk Road and Upper Wentworth Street. Two days later, a 42-year-old woman died after being struck by a pickup near Wilson Street and McClure Road.
Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath expressed her devastation, urging residents to slow down and remain vigilant to prevent further tragedies. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the traffic reconstruction unit at 905-546-4755.
Update – Police have charged an 85-year-old man in connection to the fatal collision.
