A father and his three-year-old daughter tragically lost their lives in a hospital after being struck by another vehicle in Pickering on Tuesday night, according to police.

At around 7:50 p.m., a 40-year-old man and his daughter were driving northbound on Brock Road in a Honda. They made a left turn onto Taunton Road, where their vehicle collided with a Nissan traveling southbound through the intersection with a green light.

While the investigation is still ongoing, police believe the Honda was primarily at fault for the crash. After the initial collision, the father and daughter exited their vehicle and continued westbound for about 350 meters before their car veered off the road, hitting a guardrail and ending up in a ditch.

Constable Nicholas Gluckstein, speaking to the media on Wednesday, noted that the Honda was severely damaged following the crash. The father then carried his daughter back to the road. As they tried to cross Taunton Road, they were struck by a BMW heading westbound. Both the father and daughter suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital, where they later died. Gluckstein also mentioned that the poorly lit road where the second collision occurred might have been a contributing factor.

Initially, the crash was reported as a hit-and-run because the driver of the Honda had left the scene. The second collision occurred while officers were responding to the original incident. The driver of the Nissan sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. The BMW driver also suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

At this time, police have not indicated that any charges will be laid. Anyone who witnessed either crash is urged to contact police at 905-579-1520 ext. 5226.
