Provincial police are investigating a school bus incident in Severn Township that left one student hospitalized with a broken nose.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Washago when a bus carrying children reportedly hit a well-known bump on Agnew Road near the end of its route. Several students were injured, with one girl sustaining a broken nose that required treatment at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. Parents say the driver allegedly accelerated over the bump, following requests from children on board. Other students suffered minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
Families have shared cellphone footage capturing the moments before and after the incident, showing children pleading for the bus to slow down. Several students were visibly upset and crying, and parents say the driver did not stop to check on the injured children.
Parents have expressed frustration with the Simcoe County School Transportation Consortium, which manages bus routes for roughly 36,000 students in the region, saying repeated concerns about speeding over the bump had previously been raised. Attempts to get a comment from the consortium have reportedly gone unanswered, and the current status of the driver has not been disclosed.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues and witness statements are collected.
