Several people were injured in a four-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Prescott on Thursday afternoon, according to Ontario Provincial Police.

Emergency crews responded shortly before 5 p.m. to a crash involving two tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Police say the extent of the injuries has not yet been determined as assessments continue.

The collision prompted the closure of the westbound lanes between Edward Street and Merwin Lane. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area while emergency responders and investigators work at the scene.
