An overnight apartment fire in Ottawa’s Overbrook neighbourhood has left several residents facing displacement and sent three people to hospital with minor injuries.
The blaze broke out around 2:30 a.m. Friday in a high-rise on Donald Street. Firefighters were called after alarms were triggered, followed by multiple 911 reports of smoke and flames coming from the eighth floor.
Crews found intense smoke conditions and flames inside one apartment. Several e-bikes were burning in the unit, adding to the fire’s intensity. A search found no one inside the apartment where the fire started.
Firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to other units and had the fire under control by 3:22 a.m. Crews then worked to clear smoke from the building, including areas as high as the 22nd floor.
Paramedics treated three people at the scene before taking them to hospital in stable condition.
The fire’s cause has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
