A south Windsor restaurant is facing significant damage after a car crashed into its front entrance on Sunday evening, narrowly missing staff and customers.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at RoseCity Grill, located on Howard Avenue near Kenilworth Drive. Restaurant owner Mohamad Mocheimech received a call from staff reporting that a car had driven through the front of the restaurant. Upon arriving, Mocheimech saw the rear end of the vehicle sticking into the dining area, with glass scattered everywhere.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but Mocheimech noted it was a close call. He explained that a family with two young children had just left the restaurant minutes before the crash. Additionally, one of his employees had stepped away from the counter shortly before the impact, which could have resulted in injury if she had remained in the area.
The damage to the restaurant is expected to cost around $15,000, with eight panes of glass, aluminum framing, and part of the dining area destroyed. Mocheimech recalled a previous break-in last winter where replacing a single piece of glass cost $4,000. This time, the damage was far more extensive.
The driver of the vehicle, an older woman, told Mocheimech that her brakes failed as she was pulling into the plaza. Windsor police confirmed the crash was accidental and no charges are being filed.
Although the dining area is closed for repairs, RoseCity Grill is still open for takeout and delivery.
