Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a collision involving a Durham Regional Police cruiser and a civilian vehicle in Pickering on Friday evening.
The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Kingston Road and Brock Road while officers from the force’s West Division were responding to a call. Several occupants of the civilian vehicle were taken to hospital. A child among the passengers sustained serious injuries.
Durham police confirmed that officers were responding to a call when the collision occurred and notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate to investigate.
Parts of Kingston Road and Brock Road were closed in both directions near the intersection while police investigated the scene. Police later confirmed that the affected roads had reopened shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday.
