Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has launched an investigation after two people were injured in a crash in Burlington involving a vehicle connected to break-and-enters. The incident occurred near Appleby Line and Derry Road.
Halton Regional Police (HRPS) had responded to two separate home invasions—one in Oakville at 3 a.m. and another in Milton at 4 a.m. In both cases, the same suspect vehicle was involved. Officers tracked the vehicle to Burlington, where it collided with a hydro pole. Images from the scene show a white car on its side and a knocked-down pole.
Five people were arrested, and two occupants were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No injuries were reported from the home invasions. The cause of the crash remains unclear.
SIU spokesperson Monica Hudon confirmed the agency is investigating the incident. The SIU is responsible for looking into police actions that may have led to death, serious injury, or other significant harm.
Anyone with information is urged to contact HRPS or Crime Stoppers.
