Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), is examining a collision involving a 14-year-old driver who crashed while being pursued by police in Scarborough early Sunday.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. when a Toronto police officer, in a marked cruiser, was chasing the driver for speeding in the area of Kingston Road and Lawrence Avenue.

The young driver, a 14-year-old male, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Fortunately, the three people in the other vehicle were not seriously hurt.

The SIU has launched an investigation into the incident and has assigned a team of three investigators, two forensic experts, and a collision reconstructionist. The SIU typically probes cases involving police interactions that result in death, serious injury, or sexual assault.

Anyone with information, including videos or photos, is encouraged to contact the SIU.
